Long Tail Keyword

TL;DR

Long-tail keywords are phrases of 2-3 words (or even more) used as search intent and can be used to create highly specific content, and for better SEO and rank.

What is a long tail keyword?

Keywords are used in SEO, advertising, and search engines to identify the main topics of a piece of content easily. There are two types of keywords:

  • General terms (called head keywords), such as analytics, or weight
  • Long-tail keywords are more specific and consist of two-three words (or even more). Such as: how to install analytics, or how to lose weight

Long-tail keywords are less used across web content, which means less competition in terms of SEO for the same keyword. And it is easier and better to use long-tail keywords to target specific search intent (e.g., if somebody searches for perfume, great, but what type of perfume is the user looking for? The search miniperfume travel set is way more specific, and a website can provide content for that exact search intent.
